SALDANHA: The Sea Harvest Foundation is immensely proud of the success achieved by Shilton van Wyk and his teammates at the Olympic Games in Paris. Shilton started demonstrating his formidable athletic ability since his junior years at St Andrews Primary, participating in various school rugby tournaments, and has been a beneficiary of the Sea Harvest Foundation ever since.
Foundation Administrator, Allison Visagie, says, “Shilton’s father, Jacobus van Wyk, is a former employee of Sea Harvest and, when Shilton was still in primary school, he approached the Foundation to ensure that Shilton had what he needed to participate in rugby tournaments. Over the years, Sea Harvest has formed a strong relationship with Shilton and his parents and we have witnessed his transformation and growth from school rugby to being a professional athlete.”
Shilton’s dream of becoming a professional rugby player became a reality when he was spotted at a local club rugby tournament. “Sea Harvest has celebrated every milestone he has achieved – when he was included in the Springbok Sevens camp and when he was selected to represent the South African Blitzbok squad at the Paris Olympics. We are in awe because we know how passionate he is about the sport and how committed his parents are supporting him. For Sea Harvest, it is a great privilege to share his journey, albeit in a small way,” said Allison Visagie, the Foundation Administrator.
On Thursday, 01 August 2024, the first Olympic medallist from the Saldanha Bay municipal area was welcomed home by members of the community.
The Sea Harvest Foundation is exceptionally proud of Shilton’s achievements and remains committed to empowering youth to become the best version of themselves.
