Reef Wetsuits Nahoon Junior Open presented by Sea Harvest and Twizza

Nahoon Beach in East London will host the second SA Surf Tour event of the year this weekend when the Reef Wetsuits Nahoon Junior Open presented by Sea Harvest & Twizza takes place.

Sixty junior surfers from all parts of the country will be in Buffalo City to compete in the fourth edition of this 3A Rated South African Surf Tour event which offers contestants in the seven age divisions a share of over R 20 000.00 in prize money.

The event will get underway with an Opening Function at the Nahoon Lifesavers Shack on Friday evening at 6pm. Hosts of this weekend’s contest, the Buffalo City Surfriders will be selling their famous boerewors rolls at the function to raise funds for their junior surfing team and refreshments will be available at the clubhouse.

All surfers, event officials, family and friends are welcome to attend this function.

The contest itself is scheduled to get underway at 8am on Saturday with the semifinals and finals taking place on Sunday. The Award Ceremony will take place at Nahoon Beach at approximately 2pm.

The Nahoon Junior Open caters for boys and girls in the U10, U12, U14 and U16 Divisions. East London surfers are top seeds in four of the seven divisions. They are Zoe Steyn (U16 Girls division), Daniel Emslie (U14 Boys Division) and Aimee Du Preez (U14 Girls Division). Aya Gericke (Wilderness) is the U16 Boys top seed, Josh Malherbe ( Coffee Bay) is top seed in the U12 Boys and U10 Divisions and Zia Hendricks (Jeffreys Bay) is the top seed in the U12 Girls Division.

The annual Nahoon Beach Junior Open follows the successful Reef Wetsuits Sea Harvest Vic Bay Gromcomp held at Victoria Bay in April. The next SA Surf Tour contest is the 4A rated Billabong Junior Series which will take place in Ballito at the end of June.

The Nahoon Junior Open is sponsored by Reef Wetsuits, Sea Harvest and Twizza. The tournament is presented by Surfing South Africa and hosted the Buffalo City Surfriders. All the official’s accommodation is provided by Oakhampton Guest House.
